Yes! Tens of thousands of full-time, non-tenure-track faculty in the public sector are in unions, including hundreds in the University of Massachusetts system. There are private sector, full-time, non-tenure-track faculty unions, as well, including over 100 faculty members at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts — one of the oldest faculty unions in the country.
Faculty Forward is a project of SEIU 509, uniting adjunct and contingent faculty at Boston area campuses. At some campuses non-tenure track faculty are already winning better pay, job security and access to professional development with their union contracts. Through Faculty Forward, we’re forming a Boston-area organizing committee and working together across campuses to improve conditions and refocus higher education on the importance of student success, quality instruction and economic opportunity.
